I wrote my first lines of code in 1984 on a ZX Spectrum. I mass-produced the first lines of myself in 1971. Both events involved a lot of noise and questionable design decisions.

I've been building software professionally for over 20 years, mostly in enterprise environments where "legacy system" is a polite way of saying "the thing that prints money and nobody understands anymore."

I've worked at Hilti, Vodafone, Ford, and a string of companies you've never heard of. I've written COBOL replacements, authentication systems, distributed platforms, and more YAML than any human should. Currently I'm a CTO in Dubai, deep into AI/LLM integration and still mass-producing opinions about how everyone's doing it wrong.

Some disclaimers

I'm GenX. I survived the Cold War, dial-up modems, and the dot-com crash. I have opinions, I'm not interested in consensus, and I've seen enough hype cycles to be suspicious of everything, including the things I'm excited about.

I'm ADHD and on the autism spectrum. This means I will hyperfocus on problems that interest me and completely ignore social cues that don't. If you leave a passive-aggressive comment, I will take it literally and respond to the literal content. This is not rudeness. It's just how my brain works. Adjust expectations accordingly.

I use AI to write. My brain generates ideas faster than my fingers can organize them into readable English. So yes, Claude helps me write. The architecture opinions, the bad takes, the spicy framing... that's all me. The grammar and the paragraph breaks? That's the robot. Judge accordingly.

I don't care if you disagree. I mean, I care intellectually, I'll read good counterarguments and update my views. But emotionally? I aged out of internet drama somewhere around 2008. If you're here to fight, you'll be fighting alone.

Outside of work

I play guitar. Badly. The kind of badly where my family has learned to schedule errands during practice time.

I was used to ride motorbikes. I like girls (married one! she's a Scrum Master and Agile Coach, so our arguments have acceptance criteria and a definition of done). I have two kids who are slowly realizing their dad is weird.

Music keeps me sane: jazz, fusion, electronic, progressive rock. If it has odd time signatures or a 12-minute track with no vocals, I'm in.
